Carpe Diem

You can make the choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.
Deuteronomy 30:20 NLT

In this day and age the ability or freedom to choose is a necessity because it allows us to decide who we want to be, where we want to go, what we want to wear, etc. When the freedom of choice is stripped away from us we feel trapped, especially us young adults who aspire to be different from the generations before us, and we desire to make our own choices in the way we live our lives. The choices we make truly define us as individuals, and God encourages us to choose him to be a part of our lives on a daily basis.

I stumbled upon this verse in Deuteronomy, while doing my devotions this morning- “You can make the choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life.” I find it compelling that God himself gives us the opportunity to choose if we want to love, obey, and commit ourselves wholeheartedly to him. It doesn't state YOU MUST, no. It says You can make the choice to love, obey, and commit to God. This is a beautiful example of God's love for us because he does not force us to do anything for him, and that is true love.

The other part of the passage I would like to emphasize on is the word key. Making the choice to love, obey, and commit to God is the key to your life. So by not loving, obeying, and committing ourselves to God indicates that we are missing out on something greater. Perhaps, it is like the Secret Garden? The young girl in the movie discovers a hidden door, but obviously she needs a key to unlock it. Eventually, the girl finds the key and is able to unlock the mysterious door, which unveils the most beautiful garden.  I do not think God wants to keep anything secret from us, but instead he wants to equip us with the key to unlock the meaning of life. He wants us to discover the purpose of our life and in order to accomplish that we must love, obey, and commit ourselves to him on a daily basis. In doing so we will probably be blessed with an extraordinary life greater than the one we desire for ourselves. This key that God gives us may allow us to unlock adventures we would have never expected for ourselves and in the end drawing us closer to him and him closer to us.

You can make the choice to embark on this mysterious journey to unlock the meaning of life by wholeheartedly devoting your love, obedience, and commitment to God. Although, like every great adventure there will always be unknown difficulties along the way, but that is what makes adventures so exciting! I believe that you will gain a new perspective as well as a renewed purpose to your life by living for God on a daily basis and will be able to experience the power of True Love by living for someone else.

Wish you the best on your adventures to come!
